Richard Saunders qualified as an optometrist in 2001 having undergone 4 years of training under Bradford University. He follows in his granfather's footsteps, Donald Saunders, who also practiced optometry throughout North Wales since the 1950's. Richard began his pre-registration year working alongside Adrian Hughes at Hughes Optometrists, Denbigh in 2001. Following completion of the professional qualyfying exams, Richard continued to work with Adrian at his practice while also gaining valuable experience as a locum optometrist for a number of practices in North Wales. In 2011 Richard acquired Hughes Optometrists in Denbigh and Llanrwst together with his colleague Leo Schwarz whom he studied with at Bradford University. Richard and Leo have the same philosophy with regards to optometry, offering a professional, high quality service to the local community.
Leo Schwarz qualified as a dispensing optician in 1990 and as an optometrist in 2001. Leo's father, David, also an optometrist, practiced optometry in Holywell for 59 years at where Leo continues to practice. In 2011 Leo acquired practices in Denbigh and Llanrwst in partnership with his colleague Richard Saunders who he studied with at Bradford University. These long standing practices now trade under the name Saunders and Schwarz and continue to offer an independent, professional service. Leo is married, lives in Holywell and has 4 children.
